IREA has completed installation of the first 1,000-plus meters of our advanced metering infrastructure (AMI).
Phase II began in April and installers are currently placing about 250 new meters per week. Rollout of the AMI meter installations will ramp up this summer and continue in phases as we replace the meters at all 161,000 locations by the end of 2020.
Customers will receive a mailed postcard approximately one to four weeks ahead of planned installation of their new meter. A door hanger will be left for locations that need follow-up or require a scheduled installation date/time.
Each new meter provides safe and secure two-way communications between IREA and your point of service. This system will allow us to monitor and control our distribution system while maintaining our commitment to low rates.
IREA will be able to read meters remotely, better monitor our system and more quickly identify and respond to outages, blinks and voltage fluctuations. When the system is fully implemented customers also will have more visibility into their energy usage.
