Distribution Designer I / II


$33.20 – $55.55/per hour


Responsible to the Distribution Engineering Supervisor for performing those duties necessary for the layout, surveying and preparing staking documents for the construction of new facilities, rebuilding of existing facilities, and retirement of existing facilities. Duties involve knowledge and application of field engineering, surveying, and construction practices. A wide range of procedures are used, and the position requires analysis of facts to determine what action should be taken within the limits of standard practice. Must have a working knowledge of N.E.S.C. and N.E.C. construction regulations. Receives technical direction from the Distribution Engineering Supervisor regarding explicit objectives and established goals. The employee plans and manages own work after those goals are established. Accuracy, promptness, follow-up, and the ability to meet project deadlines on a daily basis are essential. Must have the ability to communicate effectively with others and conduct oneself in a professional manner. Regular contact with other departments and customers is required to furnish or obtain information. Works with confidential information related to location of lines and equipment, construction schedules, and contract unit costs.


• An associate’s degree or above is required for Distribution Designer I or II.
• For Distribution Designer II – associate’s degree in electrical engineering or engineering technology or 5 or more years of practical equivalent experience preferred.
• Must have a good understanding of basic mathematics, algebra, trigonometry, drafting and construction practices.
• Electric theory, staking, surveying, and construction experience is preferred.
• Must be knowledgeable in computers, including computer-aided drafting (CAD), spreadsheets and word processing.
• Must maintain a valid Colorado driver’s license.
