UPDATE: The planned power outages have been postponed to Friday, Sept. 11, and Saturday, Sept. 12. Xcel Energy crews originally scheduled for this work are currently focusing all efforts to repair lines damaged by wildfires in other parts of Colorado.
IREA is notifying some of its customers about planned overnight power outages scheduled for Friday, Aug. 28, and Saturday, Aug. 29.
The outages will allow crews with IREA’s power supplier, Xcel Energy, to perform fire mitigation work on transmission lines that serve IREA customers in the Bergen Park area. The planned outages are scheduled from approximately 10 p.m. until approximately 6 a.m. both nights.
IREA mailed letters to affected customers the week of Aug. 10. Customers who are part of the planned outages will also receive automated reminder phone calls and text messages.
“IREA is committed to mitigating the risk of wildfire to protect our customers, employees and distribution system,” IREA Public Affairs Director Josh Liss said. “We realize there is no good time for a power outage and apologize for the inconvenience this may cause some of our customers, but system maintenance – especially when necessary to mitigate the risk of wildfires – is one of IREA’s highest priorities.”
If the work cannot be completed on the scheduled dates due to unforeseen circumstances such as inclement weather, alternate dates of Friday, Sept. 11, and Saturday, Sept. 12, have been designated for completion of the project. Affected customers will receive an automated call from IREA prior to Aug. 28 as a reminder, and if the work cannot be initiated on that date, they will be notified of the change by automated call in advance of the alternate dates.
