CORE CLEAN Power Choice is an easy, affordable way to support renewable energy.
Members can match their energy usage with renewable energy sources without the upfront investment of rooftop solar, wind turbines or even home ownership. By enrolling in CLEAN Power Choice, members can claim credits of renewable energy on the grid and support renewable energy generation investment at their preferred level.
CLEAN Power Choice has two options:
100% Offset Option
Members can claim 100% renewable energy with renewable energy credits retired on their behalf equal to their entire purchase of electricity from CORE.
- $0.00550 per kilowatt-hour (kWh)
- Example: If you are enrolled in the 100% Option and use 1,000 kWh per month, you can expect to pay $5.50 more per month (1,000 kWh × $0.00550). CORE matches exactly how much electricity you use each month with the adjusted cost outlined above. The surcharge will be added as a line item on your bill.
Block Purchase Option
For members who want to claim a specific portion of their electricity as renewable, CORE offers a block purchase option in increments of 100 kWh. Participants pay a fixed monthly amount and can claim a share of their electricity purchases as coming from renewable sources, not to exceed 100% of the previous annual electric consumption.
- $0.55/month per 100-kWh block
- Example: If you are enrolled in the Block Option and choose to purchase five blocks, $2.75 will be added to your monthly electricity bill to support renewable energy (5 blocks × $0.55). This charge will be the same fixed amount on your bill each month.

What are renewable energy credits (RECs)?
RECs serve as certification that 1 megawatt-hour of electricity was generated from an eligible renewable energy resource and distributed to the grid. Though REC participants do not receive green power at their home or business to a greater extent than any other member, RECs entitle them to claim the environmental attributes of the renewable energy represented by the RECs because the REC purchase has supported renewable energy production.
How much will it cost, and will it change over time?
The 100% Offset option is $0.00550 per kilowatt-hour (kWh).
The Block Purchase option is $0.55/month per 100-kWh block.
These prices are subject to change in the future.
Where does the power come from?
The energy is currently generated by solar and wind farms here in Colorado.
Can I choose the power source?
There is not an option to select the source; the renewable energy sources come from a mix of solar and wind generation.
What will my bill look like?
A line on your bill will be labeled “CLEAN Power Choice Block” or “CLEAN Power Choice Offset,” depending on your selection.
As a renter, can I participate?
Yes! CLEAN Power Choice is an excellent way for non-homeowners to participate in renewable energy expansion. Simply sign up and the line item will appear on your bill.
Can I cancel my participation?
You can cancel participation at any time by unenrolling through you SmartHub account:
Select “Report an Issue/Inquiry” on the left menu, then “CLEAN Power Choice” from the dropdown, then “Unenroll.”
