MVEA to CORE Service Transition

As neighboring electric cooperatives, CORE Electric Cooperative and Mountain View Electric Association (MVEA) have a long history of working together to provide members with safe, reliable and affordable electricity.

Some residential and business properties near Deer Trail that currently are served by MVEA have actually been within CORE’s certified service area since 1972. At the time Colorado’s Public Utilities Commission (PUC) established CORE’s service territory, our infrastructure was located too far away to affordably serve that area. MVEA’s infrastructure was closer, which helped minimize costs to new property owners who wanted access to electric service. A lot has changed since this partnership was established, and CORE has grown into the rural areas of its service territory that MVEA has served. It is time to start the process of transitioning the electric service at some of these properties from MVEA to CORE.

The project currently has three phases, detailed in the map below. In the coming months, residents in that area may see crews from both CORE and MVEA as both cooperatives prepare the distribution system for the service transition.

CORE Electric Cooperative looks forward to serving transitioned members. Like MVEA, CORE is a cooperative that offers membership benefits that include capital credits, comparable reliability, services and rates. We know affected members will have questions about this transition. As the time to transition to CORE gets closer, a representative from CORE will contact you directly with more information on the transition process.

In the meantime, affected members can call (800) 388-9881 with any questions for MVEA about the service transition of their property. Please ask to speak with a member of MVEA’s Engineering Department.

If you have member, account or general questions for CORE, email membercontact@core.coop or call (800) 332-9540.

Additional Resources

CORE understands that members set to transition service from MVEA to CORE likely have questions about their planned service with CORE. Below are answers to some of those questions. More information will be added as it becomes available.

Will I have a new member and/or account number with CORE?

Yes. CORE will assign you both a new member number and new account number.

How will I manage my CORE account?

Like MVEA, CORE utilizes the SmartHub account management platform.

Will I have to re-enroll in SmartHub?

Yes. Because you will have a new account number with CORE, you will need to re-enroll in SmartHub.

Will my enrollment in account services and programs transfer?

No. Members whose service transitions to CORE will need to re-enroll in Auto Pay, Budget Billing, Advance Pay and any other services via SmartHub.

What are my payment options?

CORE offers several free, convenient options for billing and payments. Visit our Billing & Payment Options webpage for more information on each option.

Are there fees associated with payments to CORE?

No. All of CORE’s payment options are free, including Pay by Cash (via Vanilla Direct), which is free of additional fees up to three payments per month.

What will my new bill look like?

You can learn more about the important info and data on your monthly CORE bill on our Understanding Your Bill webpage.

When will my bill be due?

The due date on your monthly bill depends on your billing cycle. Payment is due 21 days after the issue date of each monthly bill. For members who wish to select a specific billing cycle, CORE offers a Preferred Billing option.

What about my capital credits with MVEA?

The transfer of your electric service to CORE will not change your eligibility to receive distributions of capital credits from your years of service with MVEA. Please keep MVEA informed of any changes to your mailing address to ensure you receive future distribution checks.
