Solar

Victory Solar

CORE has a power purchase agreement with a 12.8-megawatt AC solar facility known as Victory Solar. The plant is located north of Bennett and began operations in late 2016. It includes nearly 48,000 panels that follow the sun each day on a single-axis tracking system to maximize energy production and average about 28,000 megawatt-hours each year.

Pioneer Solar

Pioneer Solar, CORE’s second utility-scale solar facility, began operations in late 2020 near Bennett, in Adams County, with a rated capacity of 80 MW across two large parcels. Like Victory Solar, it uses a single-axis tracking system that allows its 340,000 photovoltaic modules to follow the sun each day and maximize energy production and generate nearly 200,000 MWh annually.

Hunter Solar

CORE’s third utility-scale solar facility began operations in late 2023. Hunter Solar is located south of Bennett, in Arapahoe County, and is rated to produce a peak output of 75 MW. CORE purchases 60% of Hunter’s output under a long-term contract; Hunter sells the other 40% to another Colorado cooperative, Holy Cross Energy. The facility’s 220,000 solar panels produce about 180,000 MWh each year, some 110,000 of which CORE expects to purchase.

Southern Star Solar + Storage

CORE has signed a power purchase agreement with a subsidiary of Invenergy for 200 MW of solar and 100 MW of 4-hour duration lithium battery storage to be located near Pueblo, Colorado.

Distributed Generation

CORE members are also active participants in our power supply transition. As of August 2024, more than 9,600 members have installed more than 56.8 MW of renewable generation at their homes and businesses. This generation is overwhelmingly solar panels, with a slowly increasing share paired with batteries. Year-to-date in 2024, CORE has energized more than 580 additional kilowatts of renewable distributed generation each month.

CORE is engaged in discussions with various developers for an additional 75 MW of solar generation projects, which are set to be announced later in 2025.
