Understanding utility right of way on your property

When power goes out or emergencies strike, CORE’s service technicians need fast, safe access to equipment like transformers, meters and poles. A clear, open work area allows technicians to safely inspect equipment and gain access in case of an emergency or power outage.

What is a utility right of way?

A utility right of way is a designated area of land that is granted to utility companies for the installation and maintenance of utility equipment. This can include power lines, meters and transformers. Regular maintenance and prompt repairs help prevent service interruptions, address safety hazards, and ensure that all regulatory standards are met.

Authorized Personnel

When CORE personnel visit a residence for a service call, they will always carry official CORE ID badges and arrive in clearly marked CORE vehicles displaying our logo. In some cases, CORE partners with trusted contractors to complete service work. These contractors are also required to carry proper identification.

If you are ever uncertain about the identity of someone claiming to represent CORE, please do not hesitate to contact us immediately at (800) 332-9540 to confirm whether the individual is a CORE employee or an authorized contractor on a legitimate service call.

How you can help keep equipment accessible:

•  Keep the right of way clear of obstructions such as fences, shrubs or parked vehicles. A clear working space of four feet must be maintained around the meter at all times.

•  If you have any locked gates, we kindly ask that you provide a gate code for access.

•  For landscaping considerations, please refer to our Right of Way Planting Guidelines.

•  Respect any markers or indicators that identify the location of utility equipment.

•  Report any issues with equipment to CORE.

Thank you for your support in helping us carry out this important work.
