When a position becomes available at CORE, an announcement of the vacancy ordinarily is posted internally. This practice gives our current employees the opportunity to advance their interests, knowledge and careers. If there are no internal applicants for the position, or if the position requires a specific skillset or education level not available inside the cooperative, qualified candidates are sought from outside the association.
CORE’s policy is to accept applications for employment only when a position exists that has been opened to outside applicants. Outside applicants should read the information below for policies that may affect their eligibility for employment at CORE Electric Cooperative:
- Some positions at CORE have a residency requirement. For example, line crew personnel and some other engineering and operations employees are required to live within 30 miles of their assigned office location.
- The employment of a close relative of an employee is prohibited when such employment would result in a supervisor-subordinate relationship or would have the potential for compromising internal control or confidentiality.
- A high school diploma, or its equivalent, is required for all positions at CORE. A college degree, professional certification or technical school training may be required for some positions. These requirements, along with the experience level, knowledge, skillset and abilities required for each position, are listed in its job description.
- A valid driver’s license is required for most positions. Some positions also require the employee to obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
All offers of employment at CORE are contingent upon the successful results of a pre-employment drug screening, background check, acceptable Motor Vehicle Record and receipt of proof of eligibility to work in the U.S. The rules and policies of CORE, as well as applicable state and federal law, govern employment. For collectively bargained positions, employment with CORE is subject to the terms and conditions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
