IREA purchases Chevy Bolt, Tesla Model 3

The Colorado Energy Office estimates there could be as many as 800,000 electric vehicles on Colorado roads by 2030. As an electric distribution cooperative, it is important for IREA to understand the needs of an increasing number of EV owners in our service territory and learn how increased EV adoption will impact our electric grid.

To help do this, IREA recently replaced two fleet vehicles with a 2019 Chevrolet Bolt EV and a 2019 Tesla Model 3.

Both the Bolt and Model 3 are among the U.S. market’s highest-rated and best-selling EVs. The Bolt has an EPA-estimated 238-mile range on one charge, while the Model 3 is estimated at 310 miles. IREA is looking into designing electric vehicle rates and installing charging stations in our territory. We will keep our customers informed about any new developments.
