Xcel PSPS: Friday, Dec. 19
Extreme winds are forecast to return to the Front Range Friday, Dec. 19, which has prompted Xcel Energy, whose transmission line serves some CORE members, to plan a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) that will interrupt electric service for some CORE members in Clear Creek, Jefferson and Park counties. Affected members have been contacted via email, automated phone call and/or text alert.
Xcel’s planned PSPS is intended to reduce the risk of wildfire ignition during extreme winds, low relative humidity and low fuel moisture conditions that are expected to start by 6 a.m. Friday. We continue to work with Xcel on a solution to restore power today and potentially keep service on for members through Xcel’s planned PSPS tomorrow. However, even if we are able to restore power before Friday morning, there is still a possibility that if Xcel implements the PSPS, powerlines will be de-energized ahead of 6 a.m. Friday.
After high winds and elevated fire risks have subsided, crews will patrol lines and address any issues before they are re-energized. This process could take hours or days, during which affected members might be without electric service. We encourage affected members who cannot be without service for an extended period of time to plan for alternative accommodations.
We are coordinating with Xcel to stay updated on their planned PSPS, and will provide more detailed information as it becomes available. For more information regarding Xcel’s PSPS policy, please visit https://co.my.xcelenergy.com/s/outage-safety/wildfires/power-shutoffs.
Please note: CORE does not plan any related PSPS events. Xcel’s planned PSPS affects some CORE members because transmission lines that serve them are located in Xcel’s planned PSPS area.
